TRAVEL || TUZIGOOT NATIONAL MONUMENT

Shoutout to all my history fans out there- This National Monument is for you!

At the base of Jerome, between Clarkdale and Cottonwood, is an old Pueblo called Tuzigoot. A Pueblo is an American Indian settlement in the southwest consisting of multistoried adobe houses. Tuzigoot is Apache for “crooked water” as it is near a cutoff of the Verde River. They say this Pueblo was built by the Sinagua people between 1125 and 1400 AD. I mean, wow!

It won’t take long to admire these ancient ruins, but it is worth the look. Plus, the view is quite beautiful! It’s crazy seeing the ruins of a civilization that existed so long ago and to picture how they lived during that time. I would recommend making a quick stop to Tuzigoot on your way to Jerome!

TRAVEL || TAKE A HIKE.. IN SEDONA

Sedona is a great place to visit in Arizona, because..
A) It’s a cute town to explore
B) The location is prime

We stayed in Sedona for three nights and visited a different city each day. Our first day was exploring Sedona itself. The whole town is surrounded by incredible views of mountains and red rock. The street signs are even painted a dusty red, which really adds to the natural beauty. We stayed at the Sedona Rouge. The rooms were very nice and the staff was so accommodating. They even surprised us with chocolate covered strawberries and a sweet note on our anniversary!

Scott and I are not big hikers, (which is unfortunate for us because Sedona has amazing hiking trails) so we asked the concierge what he recommended for smaller hikes. He suggested Sugarloaf. Sugarloaf is a short trail with an incredible 360 view at the top! It is one of those secret spots not covered with tourists, but is growing in popularity thanks to its view. There are no parking/hiking fees and you get to drive through a residential neighborhood on the way. I loved that! It was cool getting to see how locals live as the architecture is completely different in Alabama.

This hike is still an hour round trip, so bring a water and wear comfy shoes! Pictures speak for themselves, but even photos can’t do it justice. This trail was my favorite on our Sedona adventures! PS: You can bring your dog!

TRAVEL || DOUGH BIRD IN PHOENIX

Looking for great pizza in the Phoenix area? Head on over to Dough Bird! The interior decor is my kind of vibe with cool tiled flooring, shiplap walls, and exposed ceilings. It’s a popular place for locals to gather and has a nice sunset view through their large windows. If there is a wait, sitting at the bar is a great choice. You can watch them cook and prepare the food- dinner and a show!

We ordered the Pepperoni & Fresh Mozzarella Pizza with organic tomato and wild oregano. It was awesome. As a matter of fact, everything their kitchen was bringing out looked awesome. Hopefully when you eat there they will still have The Elvis for dessert! I’m talking chocolate, peanut butter, banana, whip, caramel, and bacon sandies. There is a reason why dessert is spelt with two S’s instead of one… because you always want more!

FASHION || BACK TO THE BASICS

Friends,

I am here to tell you about an awesome clothing company called basic. I recently met the owner, who is so sweet and passionate. All of the designers she carries produce ethically made clothes, and some of the designers are even from Alabama. I love supporting local talent and fellow girl bosses!

“Neutral clothing for colorful personalities” is my favorite way to describe basic’s vibe! Every item of clothing is a perfect staple piece for your wardrobe. I’ll show you a few of my favorites that you can shop online or in store!

I was immediately drawn to this top because of the color. Turns out, the designer grew up down the street from a blue painted house. She loved it so much, she matched the paint color to create this top. What a cool, personal touch to add to a design!

The wide legged trousers have such a classic look. Not to mention, they are high waisted AND have pockets! Please and thank you.

Everyone needs this flowy tank. It goes with everything and is great for layering pieces. You’ll be seeing this tank pop up a lot on my feed!

FASHION || WIFEY MATERIAL SWIMMIE

What is the most perfect swimmie for your honey moon? A WIFEY one piece!

I found a company that can customize swimsuits. You just choose your wording, size, and color. Being long-waisted, I got a size up to make sure it would fit. My favorite part is the quality. It is well made with thick fabric to prevent it from being see-through. I guess you could say it’s “wife” material. HA! Feeling all the MRS vibes today.. Direct links below!

LIFESTYLE || HOW’S IT HANGIN’?

This new wall decor makes me smile every time I look at it! Hanging pictures in a tiled grouping is so clean and refreshing.

IMG_0477

Trick to hanging evenly spaced wall decor:

I don’t have a laser leveler so hanging pictures evenly is a pain. My Nashville roomie, Emily, taught me a little interior design trick that works like a charm!

First, lay out the photos on the ground the way you want them to look on the wall. Then turn them face down.

IMG_5357

Next, get one long strip of scotch tape that extends over the hangers.

IMG_4950

You’ll then use a pen to mark a little dot on the tape where the nail will need to go to hang the photo.
Peal the tape off the frames and stick it to the wall! Be sure to use a leveler to make sure the tape isn’t slanted.

Once the nails are in the wall, peal off the tape & hang your evenly spaced memories!
