TRAVEL || TAKE A HIKE.. IN SEDONA

Sedona is a great place to visit in Arizona, because..
A) It’s a cute town to explore
B) The location is prime

We stayed in Sedona for three nights and visited a different city each day. Our first day was exploring Sedona itself. The whole town is surrounded by incredible views of mountains and red rock. The street signs are even painted a dusty red, which really adds to the natural beauty. We stayed at the Sedona Rouge. The rooms were very nice and the staff was so accommodating. They even surprised us with chocolate covered strawberries and a sweet note on our anniversary!

Scott and I are not big hikers, (which is unfortunate for us because Sedona has amazing hiking trails) so we asked the concierge what he recommended for smaller hikes. He suggested Sugarloaf. Sugarloaf is a short trail with an incredible 360 view at the top! It is one of those secret spots not covered with tourists, but is growing in popularity thanks to its view. There are no parking/hiking fees and you get to drive through a residential neighborhood on the way. I loved that! It was cool getting to see how locals live as the architecture is completely different in Alabama.

This hike is still an hour round trip, so bring a water and wear comfy shoes! Pictures speak for themselves, but even photos can’t do it justice. This trail was my favorite on our Sedona adventures! PS: You can bring your dog!

TRAVEL || DOUGH BIRD IN PHOENIX

Looking for great pizza in the Phoenix area? Head on over to Dough Bird! The interior decor is my kind of vibe with cool tiled flooring, shiplap walls, and exposed ceilings. It’s a popular place for locals to gather and has a nice sunset view through their large windows. If there is a wait, sitting at the bar is a great choice. You can watch them cook and prepare the food- dinner and a show!

We ordered the Pepperoni & Fresh Mozzarella Pizza with organic tomato and wild oregano. It was awesome. As a matter of fact, everything their kitchen was bringing out looked awesome. Hopefully when you eat there they will still have The Elvis for dessert! I’m talking chocolate, peanut butter, banana, whip, caramel, and bacon sandies. There is a reason why dessert is spelt with two S’s instead of one… because you always want more!

TRAVEL || OLD TOWN SCOTTSDALE

Scottsdale, Arizona has an adorable western-themed Old Town! A few streets all intersect together  with tons of shops, art galleries, restaurants, and street performers. Spending an afternoon walking around, getting some souvenirs, and admiring local talents was so pleasant. Now, I know this is a very touristy thing to do, but sometimes it’s fun being a tourist! We went in late March/early April, so the weather was great (at a dry 75F during the day). Plus, it wasn’t swarmed with crowds. Score!

If you like fudge (or olive oils), you have to stop by Outrageous Olive Oils & Vinegars. It’s basically two different shops in one, but naturally I went straight for the fudge. Their cookies’n’cream flavor was divine!

TRAVEL || SWEET AS HONEY(MOON)

Our one year anniversary is coming up and I can’t let it pass without telling you about the best trip we’ve ever taken- our HONEYMOON!

We stayed at the all-inclusive Excellence Playa Mujeres resort (about 30 minutes north of Cancun) in Mexico. They have food everywhere you look, not to mention great views, luxury rooms, cabanas on the beach, and hammocks in the pool. With 9 restaurants, 7 pools, and entertainment all day long there is no need to leave the resort- but if you want to explore, they can help you plan an excursion too!

If you are looking to go south of the border, I would highly recommend a trip here!

TRAVEL || ROADTRIP TO ARKANSAS

My husband and I took a road trip through Arkansas, Kansas and Missouri over a long weekend. With the tight schedule, we didn’t get to explore Arkansas much- but we did visit Jonesboro on our way!

JONESBORO has a cute little downtown area with several restaurants.

SKINNY J’S was our first food stop. Don’t let the name fool you- The food does not make you skinny, but man does it taste good! I got the Pimento Cheese Burger (topped with fried jalapeños and pickles and bacon) with grits on the side. Scott got The Juicy J (a pepperjack grilled cheese and burger patty topped with chicken, mushrooms, peppers, onions, queso, and tomatoes) with a side of sweet potato fries dipped in syrup.

If you know me, you know I love taking photos by murals. This town was full of them! These two murals are right off the main street in downtown Jonesboro.

On our way back through Arkansas, we stopped at DEMO’S SMOKEHOUSE. They had some of the best BBQ I’ve ever tasted! When we told them it was our first time visiting, they were nice enough to give us a free sample of ribs. They said we had to try them, and they were right! I would highly recommend eating here for all the barbecue lovers out there.
